The problem: a bloated Shopify
Verde Skin (portfolio) came with 9 heavy apps, 400 full-size images and a 4.2s LCP. Shopify score was 42 mobile. We rebuilt for speed, not features.
What we removed and kept
- Removed 9 apps: duplicate reviews, chat widgets, unused upsell and bundle apps replaced with theme code
- 400 images: WebP at 82% quality via GD, lazy-load below fold, srcset for PDP hero
- Theme: deferred non-critical JS, inlined critical CSS, preconnected to CDN
Result
LCP 4.2s -> 1.8s, CLS 0.31 -> 0.06, mobile score 42 -> 92. Checkout conversion +0.9 points in 30 days with no ad spend. Lesson: speed is a conversion lever, not a tech checkbox.
